On the Finsyte ribbon, Record Edit › Bulk Records lists the saved templates by record type, and Opportunities inserts an Opportunities sheet with body field columns and item line columns. Caption 2: Download the records you need. Start is set to 6/1/2025 and End to 7/31/2025 to filter on expected close date, and Download Opportunities fills the sheet with 7 opportunities and their 10 item lines. Caption 3: Edit them in Excel. Item quantities are changed on three opportunities: SAF200 from 20 to 15, Welding Regulator Gauge from 5 to 3 and 25 HP Rotary Vacuum Pump from 2 to 1. Caption 4: Upload the changes. Add/Edit Opportunities sends the sheet to NetSuite. Caption 5: Each row links to its record in NetSuite. The three changed opportunities show Updated Opportunity links and the amounts NetSuite recalculated, 6,900, 3,117.6 and 15,196; the other rows read Skipped (no changes).

Every supported NetSuite record type, editable in a spreadsheet
Bulk Records turns a NetSuite record type into an Excel sheet: one row per record, or per line for transactions, with a column for each field you chose. Download the records you need, change them with everything Excel offers, and upload. New rows become new records.
- 155+ record types, including your custom record types and custom fields
- Create and update on one sheet: the Internal ID column decides which
- Transaction lines with a Line ID per line, so edits land on the right line
- Only records that changed are sent when you upload
- NetSuite’s errors appear on the row and cell that caused them
- Each row links straight to its record in NetSuite, so checking an upload takes one click
- Templates you can share with your company and copy from sandbox to production
From NetSuite to Excel and back in four steps
Design the template
In the Template Portal, right in Excel, pick the record type and the body and line fields you want as columns.
Download records
In Excel, choose Record Edit › Bulk Records and your template, then download the records that match your filter.
Edit in Excel
Change values, fill down, paste from another sheet or calculate with formulas. Add rows for new records.
Upload
Upload sends the new and changed records to NetSuite. Anything NetSuite rejects is flagged on its cell.
Built for the way finance and operations teams change data
One sheet stays connected to NetSuite from download to upload, and shows you what happened to every record.
Create and update
One sheet creates and updates records
Download the records you want to change and add rows for new ones. A row with an Internal ID updates that record, and a row without one creates a new record. Excel formulas can clean up or transform data before it goes in.
Screen recording in Excel with on-screen captions. Caption 1: Download the records you need. On the Finsyte ribbon, Download Customers fills a Customers sheet with five customers, each with its Internal ID. Caption 2: Change a row that has an Internal ID. The phone number for Summit Ridge Tools changes from 303-555-0110 to 303-555-0188. Caption 3: Add a row without one. The fields of Ironwood Components are copied to a new row, renamed Silver Creek Supply, with no Internal ID. Caption 4: Upload: one updated, one created. Add/Edit Customers on the ribbon sends the sheet; Summit Ridge Tools reads Updated Customer 461, Silver Creek Supply reads Created Customer 465 with its new Internal ID, and the unchanged rows read Skipped (no changes).
Errors
NetSuite’s errors land on the cell that caused them
When NetSuite rejects a value, the error appears as a note on that cell. Each record succeeds or fails on its own, so one rejected record doesn’t stop the rest. Fix the marked cells and upload again: records that already went in aren’t duplicated.
Screen recording in Excel with on-screen captions. Caption 1: Enter a value NetSuite will reject. A phone number is changed on Cedar Valley Supply and the Category on Northwind Fabrication is set to Wholesale, which is not a NetSuite category. Caption 2: Upload: the good records still go in. Cedar Valley Supply reads Updated Customer 462 while Northwind Fabrication reads Error: upload failed, and its Category cell turns red. Caption 3: The error sits on the cell that caused it. Hovering the red cell shows the note Invalid Category: "Wholesale". Caption 4: Fix it and upload again: nothing duplicates. Mechanical Supplies is picked from the cell’s dropdown and the sheet uploaded again; Northwind Fabrication reads Updated Customer 460 and Cedar Valley Supply, already in, reads Skipped (no changes).
Results
Check every upload in one click
After an upload, each row’s Status shows the result and links straight to that record in NetSuite, including records the upload just created. Click the status to open the record and check it. Downloaded rows carry the same link, so the record behind any row is one click away.
Screen recording in Excel with on-screen captions. Caption 1: Upload new and changed records. The phone number for Bluebird Machining is changed and the fields of Silver Creek Supply are copied to a new row, Maple Ridge Tooling, then Add/Edit Customers on the ribbon sends the sheet. Caption 2: Each row’s Status links to its record. The Status column reads Updated Customer 463 and Created Customer 466, with Skipped (no changes) on the rest. Caption 3: One click opens it in NetSuite. Hovering Created Customer 466 shows the link to that customer’s record in NetSuite.
Validation
Check the sheet before anything is sent
Validate Sheet reviews the whole sheet without sending anything to NetSuite: required fields, list values, dates, closed or locked posting periods, and journal entries that don’t balance. It also shows how many records the upload will create, update or leave unchanged.
Screen recording in Excel with on-screen captions. Caption 1: Edit the sheet as usual. The Primary Subsidiary of Summit Ridge Tools is cleared, a phone number is changed on Cedar Valley Supply, and a new row, Juniper Tooling, is added. Caption 2: Validate Sheet: nothing is sent yet. Validate Sheet is clicked on the Finsyte ribbon. Caption 3: See what will be created, updated or unchanged. The banner reads 1 to create, 2 to update, 5 unchanged, and each row’s Status reads Will create, Will update or its downloaded link. Caption 4: Problem cells are flagged before upload. The empty Primary Subsidiary cell is highlighted, and hovering it shows Primary Subsidiary is required.
Everything a bulk update needs
Work the way you already work in Excel
Sort and filter to find the records to change, fill a new value down a column, look values up against a mapping table, or paste a block from another workbook. The sheet only reaches NetSuite when you choose to upload.
Templates your team can share
Build a template once in the Template Portal, right in Excel. Keep it personal or share it with everyone in your company, and export it to copy it between your sandbox and production accounts. A default filter limits every download to the records it’s meant for, such as invoices in US dollars.
Lines without the guesswork
Every line sublist gets a Line ID column. A row with a Line ID updates that line, a row without one adds a line, and a line whose ID is on no row is removed. Sublists your template has no columns for are never touched.
Lot numbers, serial numbers and statuses
Add the Inventory Assignment columns and enter lot numbers, serial numbers and inventory statuses directly, one row per assignment. Leave them off and NetSuite builds the default detail for you.
Create one transaction from another
Name a source transaction in Created From and Bulk Records creates the record from it the way NetSuite does: an invoice or item fulfillment from a sales order, an item receipt or vendor bill from a purchase order, a credit memo from a return authorization, and other supported pairs. A row that can’t be matched is held back with the reason on its cell.
Only what changed
Every downloaded record is stamped with a checksum, so an upload sends only the records you actually changed, and added, copied or deleted line rows count as changes. Dropdowns tied to the sheet fill list fields with valid values.
Custom records and custom fields
Custom record types and custom fields work the same way as standard ones, so the records your account has added to NetSuite are covered too.
Built on NetSuite’s REST API
Bulk Records works through NetSuite’s REST API with each user’s own NetSuite role and permissions. It needs the Finsyte SuiteApp deployed in your NetSuite account, which comes with Finsyte and deploys from Finsyte Preferences, and no extra NetSuite modules.
Built-in templates too
Record Edit also includes ready-made templates for budgets and for journal entries and intercompany journal entries.

A simpler alternative to CSV imports
Updating NetSuite data in volume usually means a round trip: export, edit, map, import, then check what failed. Bulk Records keeps that whole cycle in one Excel sheet that stays connected to NetSuite.
For teams that work in Excel, Bulk Records is a simpler alternative to CSV imports. You set the template up once rather than mapping fields for every import, and the same sheet downloads, edits and uploads, so there is no file to export and reassemble.
Bulk Records: FAQ
- QCan I use Bulk Records instead of a CSV import?
- Yes. Bulk Records downloads, edits and uploads records from one Excel sheet, so you set a template up once instead of mapping fields for each import. It creates and updates records on the same sheet and shows any errors on the cells that caused them.
- QWhich NetSuite record types does it support?
- 155+: all 155 standard record types, from customers, vendors and items to sales orders, invoices, purchase orders, vendor bills, payments, inventory transactions and setup lists, plus your custom record types.
- QCan I update existing records as well as create new ones?
- Yes. Download the records you want to change, edit them and upload. A row with an Internal ID updates that record; a row without one creates a new record.
- QDoes it handle transaction lines?
- Yes. Each line has a Line ID, so an upload updates, adds or removes the right lines. Sublists the template has no columns for are left as they are.
- QHow do I check a record after I upload it?
- Click its Status cell. After an upload, each row’s status links straight to its record in NetSuite, including records the upload created, so you can open and check it without searching.
- QWill an upload change records I didn’t edit?
- No. Every downloaded record is stamped with a checksum, so an upload sends only the records you changed.
- QWhat happens if NetSuite rejects a record?
- Its error appears on the cell that caused it, and every other record still uploads. Fix the cell and upload again; records that already went in aren’t duplicated.
- QWhat do I need in NetSuite?
- The Finsyte SuiteApp, deployed in your NetSuite account. It comes with Finsyte and deploys from Finsyte Preferences. No extra NetSuite modules are needed.
- QCan my team share templates?
- Yes. A template can be personal or shared with everyone in your company, and only the person who created it can change it. Export a template to copy it between your sandbox and production accounts.
- QDoes it handle lot and serial numbers?
- Yes. Add the Inventory Assignment columns to a template to enter lot numbers, serial numbers and inventory statuses for each line. Without them, NetSuite builds the default inventory detail.
- QDoes it work with custom fields and custom records?
- Yes. Templates can include custom fields, and custom record types can be downloaded, edited and uploaded like standard ones.
