Create and Update NetSuite Items from Excel
Create and update NetSuite items from Excel: inventory, non-inventory, service, kit and assembly items, in bulk.
Screen recording in Excel with on-screen captions. Caption 1: Insert a Bulk Records sheet. On the Finsyte ribbon, Record Edit › Bulk Records lists the saved templates by record type, and Opportunities inserts an Opportunities sheet with body field columns and item line columns. Caption 2: Download the records you need. Start is set to 6/1/2025 and End to 7/31/2025 to filter on expected close date, and Download Opportunities fills the sheet with 7 opportunities and their 10 item lines. Caption 3: Edit them in Excel. Item quantities are changed on three opportunities: SAF200 from 20 to 15, Welding Regulator Gauge from 5 to 3 and 25 HP Rotary Vacuum Pump from 2 to 1. Caption 4: Upload the changes. Add/Edit Opportunities sends the sheet to NetSuite. Caption 5: Each row links to its record in NetSuite. The three changed opportunities show Updated Opportunity links and the amounts NetSuite recalculated, 6,900, 3,117.6 and 15,196; the other rows read Skipped (no changes).
Items and merchandising in bulk, from Excel
Item lists are long and change often: a new product line, a vendor change, new descriptions for a catalog, reorder points after a season. Bulk Records puts the items you choose in an Excel sheet with the fields from your template, so a change across hundreds of items is a fill-down and an upload. Only the items you changed are sent, and anything NetSuite rejects is noted on the cell that caused it.
Load a new product line
Add one row per SKU as a new inventory, non-inventory, kit or assembly item. Excel formulas can build names, descriptions and codes from your product list before anything goes in.
Update fields across many items
Download the items to change, update any field your template includes, such as descriptions, preferred vendor or reorder points, and upload only the rows that changed.
Maintain item groups, numbers and revisions
Item groups, inventory numbers and item revisions are record types of their own, so they can be listed, corrected and added from a sheet too.
Set up commerce data
Commerce categories, coupon codes, promotion codes and merchandise hierarchy records load the same way, ready for a launch or a promotion.

Instead of a CSV import
Update item records without exporting, editing and re-importing a CSV: download the items, change them in Excel and upload. Once a record is uploaded, its row links straight to that record in NetSuite, so checking it takes one click.
Bulk Records: a simpler alternative to CSV importsItems in Bulk Records: FAQ
- QCan I import items into NetSuite from Excel?
- Yes. Add a row for each new item, leaving Internal ID blank, and upload. Bulk Records creates the items in NetSuite and flags any value NetSuite rejects on its cell.
- QWhich item types are supported?
- Inventory, non-inventory, service, other charge, kit, assembly, description, discount, download, gift certificate, markup, payment, ship, subtotal and item group items, plus inventory numbers and item revisions.
- QCan I change just a few fields?
- Yes. A template includes only the fields you chose, and an upload sends only the records you changed. Sublists the template has no columns for are left as they are.
- QCan I add inventory, kit and assembly items in the same upload?
- Each item type is its own record type, so each has its own template and sheet. Prepare them side by side in one workbook and upload each sheet.
- QAre custom item fields included?
- Yes. Templates can include your custom fields as columns, so they download and upload with the rest of the item.
