NetSuite Cash Flow Statement in Excel

The statement of cash flows in Excel, laid out the way NetSuite’s own Cash Flow report is, with every line live from your general ledger.

Finsyte cash flow template in Excel for Headquarters (Consolidated) as of December 31, 2025, showing Operating Activities with Net Income of 3,313,051 and accounts receivable adjustments totaling (2,411,398)
What You Get

A NetSuite statement of cash flows, live in Excel

The template follows the layout of NetSuite’s Cash Flow report: operating, investing and financing activities, then the change in cash. Every amount is a live formula reading your NetSuite general ledger, and Load Accounts builds it from your own chart of accounts.

  • Operating activities: Net Income, then adjustments for receivables, inventory, payables and other working capital accounts
  • Investing and financing activities from your fixed asset, other asset, long-term liability and equity accounts
  • Net Change in Cash, Cash at Beginning of Period, Effect of Exchange Rate on Cash and Cash at End of Period
  • A live balance in every cell, from the purpose-built GLAccountBalance function
  • Drill down from any line to the transactions behind it

How It Works

From a blank sheet to a NetSuite cash flow statement in four steps

  1. Insert the template

On the Finsyte ribbon, choose Standard Reports › Cash Flow › Cash Flow. A new Cash Flow sheet opens with its parameters at the top.

  2. Set the parameters

Pick the Subsidiary, Fiscal Year, Period Number and Period Range: PTD for one period or RTD for the fiscal year to date.

  3. Load Accounts

Finsyte fills in operating, investing and financing activities for that subsidiary, with subtotals and the change in cash.

  4. Refresh when the books change

Use Refresh Data after new postings. The statement updates in place, and so do your own calculations.

Operating, Investing and Financing

Operating, investing and financing, as NetSuite structures them

The account tree follows NetSuite’s Financial Report: Cash Flow, so the Excel version and the NetSuite report line up section by section. Each cell is its own formula reading the parameters above its column.

Operating activities

Net Income comes first, followed by adjustments to net income for accounts receivable, unbilled receivables, inventory, other current assets, accounts payable, payroll liabilities, sales tax payable and other current liabilities. Each group collapses to its total, so you can show the summary or open any line.

Investing and financing activities

Investing covers fixed assets and other assets. Financing covers long-term liabilities and equity. Below them sit Net Change in Cash for Period, Cash at Beginning of Period, Effect of Exchange Rate on Cash and Cash at End of Period.

Accumulated depreciation is usually a Fixed Asset account in NetSuite, so depreciation sits in investing activities, netted against capital spending. To show it as a non-cash add-back under operating activities, move those rows up.

Signs that read like a cash flow statement

Each line shows its effect on cash. The template reverses the sign of every account except Cash at Beginning of Period, so an increase in receivables shows as a use of cash. It’s the same reversal that right-click Switch Sign applies to any balance.

Break a line down

Right-click any amount and choose Drill Down. A new sheet breaks that number down by subsidiary, period, department, class, location or entity, or lists the transaction lines behind it, all within the same parameters as the cell.

Read it at any level

Every group in the tree is an Excel outline level. Collapse to the three activity sections for a board summary, or open Accounts Receivable to see which receivables moved. A collapsed group shows its total in place.

One period or the year to date

Period Range takes PTD for a single period or RTD for the fiscal year to date. On balance sheet accounts, both return the change over that span rather than the balance, which is what a cash flow is built from. For a month-by-month view, set Period Range to PTD, then duplicate the balance column and change only the Period Number in each copy.

One subsidiary, or consolidated

Set Subsidiary to one entity, or pick its (Consolidated) entry to roll up that subsidiary and every subsidiary below it. Start from the top-level (Consolidated) subsidiary and Load Accounts brings in every account you have. Accounts an entity doesn’t use show 0. A subsidiary’s column shows its own currency by default, or the top-level parent’s currency when you set the column’s Currency.

Any segment, any combination

Location and your custom segments, such as Activity Code, are parameters on every column. Set one for a cash flow by location, or combine several in one column. A segment view needs that segment on your balance sheet postings, not only on income and expenses. Choose which parameters appear in Template Parameters.

Compare two periods

A cash flow with two periods side by side, plus Variance and % Variance columns, has its own template. See the comparative cash flow.

It’s Excel, so make the cash flow yours

The template gets you started. In Excel, you make it your own: every amount is a cell formula, so you can add rows and columns around it: free cash flow, cash conversion or a forecast column. A refresh updates the amounts, and your calculations follow.

  • Free cash flow and cash conversion
  • Monthly columns for the year
  • A subsidiary per column
  • Depreciation as an operating add-back
  • Charts that update on refresh
Questions?

NetSuite cash flow statement in Excel: FAQ

Q
How do I get the statement of cash flows from NetSuite into Excel?
Insert the Finsyte Cash Flow template, pick the subsidiary and period, and choose Load Accounts. The full statement fills in with live amounts, from Net Income through Cash at End of Period.
Q
Does the Excel cash flow match NetSuite’s Cash Flow report?
It follows the same layout. The account tree is organized the way NetSuite’s Financial Report: Cash Flow is, with operating, investing and financing activities, so the two line up section by section.
Q
Can I see cash flow for one subsidiary?
Yes. Set Subsidiary to that entity, or to its (Consolidated) entry to include every subsidiary below it. Each cell works independently, so you can also give each subsidiary its own column, in its own currency or the top-level parent’s.
Q
How do I compare cash flow across two periods?
Use the Comparative Cash Flow template. It puts two periods side by side, with Variance and % Variance columns calculating the change between them.
Q
Why do some lines show reversed signs?
Because the statement shows each account’s effect on cash. Every account except Cash at Beginning of Period is sign-reversed, so an increase in receivables or inventory shows as a use of cash.
