Trial Balance Template
The Trial Balance Template makes it easy to return the full list of GL Accounts and their balances based on parameters of Subsidiary, Fiscal Year, Period Number, and Period Range.

There are two ways to view the Trial Balance Template: Trial Balance and Grouped Trial Balance.
![]()
Trial Balance: This template returns a flat list of all accounts and their balances for the specified parameter inputs.
Grouped Trial Balance: This template returns the full list of accounts and balances organized using your company's NetSuite chart of accounts structure given the specified parameter inputs. Refer to the GL Accounts list for more information about this grouping structure.
Utilizing the Trial Balance Template
- Select Standard Reports > Trial Balance > Grouped Trial Balance
- View the new sheet that has been created called Trial Balance
- Fill in all required parameters (asterisks by the names)
- Select Load Accounts under the Templates and Actions section to call NetSuite data and return the GL Account Balances for all account numbers in the selected subsidiary.
- Scroll down to the Total row. NetSuite posts every transaction in balance, so the Total nets to zero when every account with a balance is on the sheet. A total other than zero points to a missing account, such as one made inactive while it still held a balance.
Note: The Cumulative Translation Adjustment carries the difference left when subsidiaries in other currencies are translated: balance sheet accounts at the period-end rate, income statement accounts at the average rate and equity at historical rates. Finsyte calculates it the way NetSuite does, from Assets, Retained Earnings, Net Income and Liabilities & Equity. For a single entity in its own currency, it's zero.
Customize the Trial Balance Template
After the initial creation of the template, any changes that are made will be saved only in the current Excel Workbook. This template makes it easy to analyze accounts, but it also allows users to analyze segmented information like Subsidiary.
Let's say a user wants to analyze all of their accounts for each of their four Subsidiaries. Start with the top-level (Consolidated) subsidiary before you select Load Accounts, so the sheet brings in every account. Then highlight all of column D, copy it, and paste it into columns E, F and G.
By simply changing the Subsidiary at the top of each column, the GLAccountBalance functions will automatically update to review balances for those subsidiaries. Each column shows its subsidiary's own currency by default. To show a subsidiary in the top-level parent's currency instead, set that column's Currency parameter to the parent's currency. NetSuite translates the amounts at its own exchange rates, so they match NetSuite's reports. Because every cell has its own parameters, one sheet can hold local and parent currency side by side. An account a subsidiary can't use returns 0 and can be ignored.
Each cell is its own formula and works independently, so you can arrange and format the report however you like. Once you've customized it, don't select Load Accounts again. It rebuilds the account list for the first balance column only, which undoes your layout.
